Word gives you a vast array of options for finding and/or replacing content within your documents – Text, Pictures, Captions, Bookmarks and Formatting. As examples, you can search for graphics within your document, you can search for specific words and change the font as well as search for specific formatting such as bold and change it. Below are the step by step instructions for Utilizing the Find and Replace Features —

Find Text
- Click the Home tab.
- Click Find in the Editing group.
- The Navigation pane opens. Navigate to the search bar and type in the text you are looking for. Example: Video.
- The results will be highlighted in the document and listed in the Navigation pane.
- You can use the up and down arrow to move through the results within your document.
Find and Replace Text
- Click the Home tab.
- Click Replace in the Editing group.
- The Find and Replace dialog box will open.
- Enter the text you want to search for and replace in the Find what box.
- Enter the replacement text in the Replace with box.
- Click the Find Next button.
- Once you’ve clicked Find Next, choose one of the following options:
- Replace – Replace the highlighted text.
- Replace All – Replace all instances of the text within your document.
- Find Next – Skip to the next instance of the text.
- Continue with Step 7 until you’ve completed the replace process.
Find Images, Tables, Comments and Objects
- Click the Home tab.
- Click Find in the Editing group.
- The Navigation pane opens. Click on the down-arrow to the right in the search box and select from the Find:. Example: Graphics.
- The results are displayed in the listed in the Navigation pane below the search box. You can use the up and down arrow to move through the results within your document.
Find and Replace Formatting
- Click the Home tab.
- Click Replace in the Editing group.
- The Find and Replace dialog box will open. Click the More button to reveal the Format button.
- Navigate to below the Replace section on the and click the Format button.
- Choose the formats you want to find and replace and click OK. Example: Bold.
- The Format is added to the Find What section.
- Click within the Replace with Field to choose the replacement format.
- Click the Format button and choose the replacement format.
- Click OK to accept the selection/s.
- The Format is added to the Replace with area.
- Click the Find Next button.
- Once you’ve clicked Find Next, choose one of the following options:
- Replace – Replace the highlighted instance.
- Replace All – Replace all instances within your document.
- Find Next – Skip to the next instance within the document.
- Continue with Step 20 until you’ve completed the replace process.
NOTE: If you want to include specific text within the format search and replace, type the text to search for within the Find What box and type the replacement text within the Replace with box. The results will only include the specified text including the specified format.
